Stride Pianist Art Tatum - Saturday Night Jazz Piece



Arthur "Art" Tatum, Jr. (October 13, 1909 – November 5, 1956) was an American jazz pianist and virtuoso. He was nearly blind. Tatum is widely acknowledged as one of the greatest jazz pianists of all time. He is also know for his ability as a stride pianist. Critic Scott Yanow wrote, "Tatum's quick reflexes and boundless imagination kept his improvisations filled with fresh (and sometimes futuristic) ideas that put him way ahead of his contemporaries ... Art Tatum's recordings still have the ability to scare modern pianists." (Wikipedia Excerpt)

Tennis is on TV this weekend. The Sony Ericsson Open is being held in Miami, played by both the top men and women. It is unique to see both in a non major. This tournament is regarded as the 5th major. The four other majors are the Australian Open, Wimbledon, The French Open and The US Open.
