Paul VI 5 Seneca 0 - The Weather Was King

A good win to begin the season. I saw some good things and I saw some things we need to work on. When we have a home match I want to have a more efficient pre-match practice because today it wasn't. We work on our footwork, stretching, 1st and 2nd serve, return of serve, volleys, overheads, approach shots, cross court, down the line. A simple pre-match practice that is standard, and part and parcel to our success.

I most certainly want to see everybody have a more confident second serve. A 'nervous' or 'paddy cake' second serve, without any pace or direction, gives up too much court to our opponent(s), handing them a very easy offensive opportunity. When we play better teams that type of second serve, which I have worked diligently to improve, will be almost as bad as a double fault. This type of serve is also harmful in doubles. Thinking about where we want to target our serve (body, backhand) can benefit our 1st serve success in addition to occupying our mind on the 2nd serve, thus lessening the jitters.

We will work on such when the seniors are gone, along with our doubles movements. I hope the seniors have a great time on the trip, and they come back refreshed and focused for the meat of our schedule. I want to thank Mr and Mrs Rogers for those fine pretzels and spicy mustard. The box score will be in the Courier Post tomorrow, and a line score in the Philadelphia Inquirer. Listen for the morning announcements and it should be noted there too.
